The Minnesota Senate this afternoon (Thurs) over objections of some Democrats passed an E-12 education funding bill — the single largest piece of the state budget. Maplewood Democrat Chuck Wiger says state dollars are inadequate, with no increase on the funding formula:
“There will be cuts. Members, I hope you’ve talked to your local school boards, to parents, to teachers.”
Democrats oppose G-O-P measures in the bill that would broaden school choice. Lino Lakes Republican Roger Chamberlain responds:
“Government schools are not written on a tablet as the best educational option ever in the history of the world.”
Chamberlain says Minnesotans have a choice for pre-K and higher ed — but in the middle, the state tells parents, “you can’t have that.”
