The trial of former Police Officer Derek Chauvin — charged in the death of George Floyd — continues this morning in a Minneapolis courtroom. Yesterday, the prosecution looked at the training that Minneapolis police are given.   One of the officers involved in training said Chauvin had been trained in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. Another officer who wrote the department’s use of force curriculum — Lieutenant Johnny Mercil — said police are not trained to use a knee on someone’s neck — as Chauvin is alleged to have done to Floyd. He also testified that Chauvin’s knee on Floyd’s neck would not be authorized after Floyd was handcuffed.
