Hennepin County EMS paramedic Derek Smith and his partner responded to the incident outside Cup Foods on May 25th, 2020 when George Floyd died. Smith testified today that when he arrived he checked Floyd for a pulse…

“In a living person, there should be a pulse there, I did not feel one, I suspected this patient to be dead.”

Smith testified that he checked again for a pulse repeatedly once Floyd was in the ambulance and was not able to detect one. Eventually, Smith administered an electric shock to try to revive Floyd and testified that he was trying to give Floyd a second chance at life.
