A key Minnesota Senate committee is considering a three-million-dollar payment from the state to the family of Corrections Officer Joseph Gomm, who was murdered by a Stillwater prison inmate in July of 2018. Officer Gomm’s sister, Audrey Cone, told lawmakers:
“As a son, a brother, an uncle, he was always there for us, for his siblings, and for his mother.”
Senator Ron Latz says he has concerns about a bill that would allow bypassing of a system already in place that handles claims against the state by families of employees killed in the line of duty. There was not a vote on the bill in committee today.
