“We will restore peace, safety, and hope to 38th and Chicago.”
…Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo announcing a crackdown by local and federal officials amid a crime wave that’s hit neighborhoods around where George Floyd died. The chief says he refuses to abdicate even one city block to those who choose violence over peace — but adds:
“The best remedy right now is for us to re-open up 38th and Chicago, and that has to happen, and it will happen. (Reporters jump in) Question was, when will that happen, and I just want to stress it’s not a matter of *if*, it is *when* it happens, and it’ll be forthcoming.”
There’s an ongoing debate on the best way to make what’s currently a temporary memorial to George Floyd into a permanent part of the city.
