Minnesota House Republicans say they’ll try this week to get several stalled bills moving: state tax relief for businesses receiving federal COVID loans, tax breaks for workers getting COVID unemployment benefits, and two requests from Governor Tim Walz — public safety funding for the George Floyd officer trials, and 100-plus million dollars for summer school programs. Little Falls Republican Ron Kresha:

“Crazy as I’ve ever seen it. Our House Democrats are playing gridlock with themselves and they won’t move anything. We have all the other parties in the legislature ready to move, ready to solve these problems.”

The main stalemate appears to be over public safety funding. A group of House Democrats is demanding that police reforms be part of the package. They say lack of accountability is what caused the death of George Floyd.
