Authorities in Sibley County are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Friday night east of Gaylord. The Sheriff’s Office says at just before 11 pm, they received a report of a person with a gunshot injury at a location in Dryden Township. On arrival, officials found an adult male that had been shot by a single gunshot from a rifle. The victim was later identified as 26-year-old Brady Steffer of rural Arlington. The Sheriff’s Office says deputies discovered that Steffer and another person were checking on some animals on the property after hearing some coyotes nearby. While checking the animals, Steffer and the other person stopped to check on an animal that was stuck in some fencing. The person with Steffer had been carrying a rifle, was repositioning the rifle and while doing so, a round was discharged and struck Steffer. Steffer was transported to Sibley Ridgeview Medical Center in Arlington, where he later died.
