Loosened COVID restrictions allowing more people at restaurants, bars, gyms, pools, indoor entertainment venues and private events are now in effect — which Republicans say will help but doesn’t go nearly far enough. Governor Tim Walz says about relaxing his emergency orders:

“I just keep continuing to tell people that we’re gonna continue moving in that direction, as long as the virus keeps being suppressed and moving in that direction.”

Senate Republicans have a number of bills ready to restrict or cancel the governor’s emergency powers, but it’s unlikely the Democrat-controlled Minnesota House would agree at this point.
