Volunteer of the Year Award Recipients
The Greater Mankato Growth, Inc. Annual Meeting is a time for us to honor our dedicated volunteers. Greater Mankato Growth, Visit Mankato, City Center Partnership, and GreenSeam announce their 2020 Volunteer of the Year award recipients: Brett Prescher, Kato Moving & Storage, Mayflower, Jeni Bobholz, and James Marzolf. They have made outstanding contributions to our organizations by demonstrating leadership through service and volunteerism as well as making contributions to the betterment of the community’s quality of life, business environment, and overall economic vitality.
Greater Mankato Growth’s Volunteer of the Year: Brett Prescher, Sales Manager, Radio Mankato
Brett has been an instrumental partner, collaborator, and volunteer through his work at Radio Mankato. He supported the launch of Restaurant Rally, Experience Greater Mankato, and several other efforts to support local business in our region. Additionally, throughout COVID, Brett continued to be a strong leader for GMG’s Cavaliers attending nearly 100% of our visits either in-person or virtual. During ever-changing times, he continued to show his commitment to his volunteer efforts and his passion for our regional marketplace.
Visit Mankato’s Volunteer of the Year: Kato Moving & Storage, Mayflower
You can say that the Kato Moving & Storage team has been running with the Mankato Marathon since the start. Their willingness to help, how and when they can through the entire year is astounding. Not only do they provide storage for much-needed supplies, but they also help shuffle them around when needed. During Mankato Marathon weekend Mary and the team show up to the start line in the wee morning hours to get everything ready for the bag drop before the runners arrive, and then they make their way to the finish line giving back the bags until the last of the runners finish. When it is time to pack up, the team is there alongside Visit Mankato staff loading up everything until the streets are ready to open up again. Their willingness to chip in, provide transportation for equipment, and clear a large workspace to organize race swag has been invaluable to the Visit Mankato staff.
City Center Partnership’s Volunteer of the Year: Jeni Bobholz, Owner, Circle Inn
Ms. Bobholz has worked to promote businesses as part of the Business on Belgrade Association. She has put her best foot forward, by promoting not just Belgrade Avenue businesses, but also locally owned restaurants across the Greater Mankato area via her robust social media following. She has shown entrepreneurial spirit in response to COVID-19 by finding ways to turn lemons into lemonade, not just to inspire existing business owners on social media, but to aspiring entrepreneurs through the One Million Cups program. In a year where local businesses were faced with unprecedented challenges, Jeni collaborated with the City Center Partnership on the largest Shop Small campaign in the community’s history. Jeni completed a mural this fall of “LoNo Strong” in collaboration with another City Center business, supported 30 other entrepreneurs at the Holiday shopping Tent Sale, fundraised for the North Mankato Fire Department, and actively promotes the sale of Minnesota based products at the Circle Inn.
GreenSeam’s Volunteer of the Year: James Marzolf, Pipestone System
Marzolf first volunteered with Project Agriculture Business Epicenter (Project ABE) in 2015 as the Steering Committee chair. He was at the table to create the importance of agriculture and spent countless hours advocating on behalf of the new organization. Through his advocacy and leadership, led to the creation of GreenSeam in 2016. Marzolf did not stop there and in 2016 he stepped up to be the first Chair of GreenSeam. Fast forward to 2020 and he continues to be an important part of GreenSeam navigating through these challenging and exciting times.
