With the first George Floyd officer trial just over a month away, Republicans have refused the governor’s request for 35 million dollars to prepare for possible trouble and beef up security. Senate G-O-P Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says Minneapolis needs to be responsible to have an adequate police force, but instead cut over a hundred officers — and besides that…
“Too many communities did not get paid when they came to Minneapolis’ aid throughout the summer…. That’s wrong.”
Governor Tim Walz contends preparation is essential to head-off possible violence and says about Republicans’ refusal to approve his funding request:
“It will hamper our response if they don’t move, and this is what the legislature’s supposed to do. They have ample opportunity to do this and I would just encourage them to move.”
Walz hints executive action could be one possible option if the legislature doesn’t approve funding.
