Any Minnesota firefighter with cancer or cardiac issues would receive a one-time 30-thousand-dollar state grant per diagnosis, under a bipartisan “Hometown Heroes” bill unveiled today (Thurs) at the State Capitol. Jen Frantz lost her husband, Matt, in a line-of-duty death from a heart attack while he was chief of the Rice Lake Fire Department:
“I believe that if he were still here, it would have been one of his top priorities to make sure his fellow firefighters were staying healthy, not only in body but in mind.”
The bill would also establish an assistance program for Minnesota firefighters facing emotional trauma. It would also provide annual training to all firefighters to help reduce the incidence of cancer, emotional trauma, and cardiovascular disease.
