With more winter weather possible across the state this week, MN-DOT plow crews will have another opportunity to try new snow removal tools that are part of a three-year pilot program MNN reported on earlier this month. MN-Dot Maintenance research engineer Tom Peters has more details on a new kind of slurry spreader he says could be a game-changer.

“One of the things it will allow us to do is a direct slurry spray. so you can shift it. Right now we have a situation where it will basically just cast it and do a spinner distribution. I think that will come more in handy with the metro scenario rather than the rural, but in both cases, we want to see how that works.”

Peters says they will be using any and all metrics possible to gauge the overall effectiveness of the trial spreader before making a decision on expanding its use in years to come.
