Among the increase in fire deaths experienced in Minnesota last year were six deaths due to explosive gas leaks. Deputy State Fire Marshall Amanda Swenson says there is an easy step all Minnesotans can take.

“Because we saw an increased number of deaths due to gas leaks, just think about going out and purchasing one of those explosive gas alarms to add another level of safety into the home.”

Swenson says the alarms are readily available and in some cases could be the only indicator that a dangerous gas is present.
