Some Democrats are blasting Minnesota Senate Republican Leader Paul Gazelka for his comments Friday that, after the elderly and front-line workers, people who are essential at the State Capitol should be in the priority group for COVID vaccinations. Representative Mike Howard, Democrat from Richfield, calls Gazelka’s statement “really galling”:
…”especially coming from leaders who have consistently minimized the threat of COVID, and now have the nerve to suggest that they should jump in front of the line of Minnesotans to receive this vaccine.”
Governor Tim Walz says he’s concentrating on vaccine rollout for health care workers and nursing homes — but added:
“I’ll tell you, if it were by public opinion, I’m pretty certain that the public’s not gonna put politicians as a priority list.”
Gazelka has not been reachable for any further comment.
