Governor Tim Walz rolls out his plan today (Tues) for state assistance to restaurants, bars and other businesses affected by the four-week COVID closure he ordered. Walz contends with the latest economic update coming out next week, the legislature should be able to pass a package quickly:

“The timing is right here in Minnesota.   We’re gonna know where we’re at on revenues, where we’re at on the budget, what we’re looking at going into the next biennium when we start this next session in January of ’21.”

The governor is talking about sales tax forgiveness for affected businesses, possible direct relief for individual workers, plus other measures. Republican leaders say they’re waiting to see exactly what Walz proposes.
