Extra Trimmings event moves the town to benefit ECHO Food Shelf

From November 21-28, local gyms, Hy-Vee and Profile by Sanford are raising money for the ECHO Food Shelf in this community-wide event.

MANKATO (November 23, 2020) — Extra Trimmings, a community event, encourages people to move and donate this week – November 21-28 – with the help of gym partners and Hy-Vee. This year, Extra Trimmings offers virtual workouts from partnering gyms and several ways to donate.

Here’s how people can participate in the Extra Trimmings fundraiser for ECHO Food Shelf.

  • Round up at Hy-Vee Hilltop or Downtown stores by saying “Yes” to Extra Trimmings at check out or online at Hy-Vee Aisles online.
  • Visit EXTRA TRIMMINGS on Facebook for virtual workouts from partnering gyms.
  • Donate to the ECHO Food Shelf online with a link from the EXTRA TRIMMINGS Facebook page.

Every month, the ECHO Food Shelf distributes 160,000 pounds of food to approximately 1,700 households. Echo Food Shelf also distributes hygiene products such as toothpaste, shampoo and soap. When people make an online monetary donation, ECHO Food Shelf can maximize the contributions with its buying power.

Dawn Naples, Extra Trimmings event organizer, is a health promotion specialist at Profile by Sanford in Mankato. Profile by Sanford provides nutrition, activity and lifestyle coaching to help members lose weight and make healthy lifestyle changes.

“Extra Trimmings encourages people to do a virtual workout from a partnering gym and give a little extra to the ECHO Food Shelf,” Naples said. “Due to the pandemic, the ECHO Food Shelf is seeing a greater need for food in our community. Thanksgiving is a good time to share our abundance with other families.”

The Mankato Clinic Foundation, Scheels and Profile by Sanford are each donating $1,000 to ECHO Food Shelf to kick off Extra Trimmings.
