The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is marking Infant Safe Sleep Week in Minnesota by encouraging parents to know the ABCs of safe sleep.

“Infants should always be placed alone when they’re going to sleep or nap, they should always be placed on their backs and they should be placed in a crib.”

The MDH’s Karen Fogg says unsafe sleep environments account for nearly all unexpected infant deaths in Minnesota. According to the most recent data, in 2018, a total of 51 infants died unexpectedly and 45 of those deaths were sleep-related.
