House Republicans tried again Thursday in the sixth special session of the year to rein-in Governor Tim Walz’s emergency COVID powers — this time with a bill that would allow the legislature to cancel whatever restrictions it chose. Delano Republican Joe McDonald:

“When you got executive orders that are affecting our lives within our own households, telling us as families that we can’t meet with more than 10 people or more than three individual families together — and yet us as representatives have no say in that?”

House Democratic Majority Leader Ryan Winkler responded:

“We are in a dire time and we need to make sure that the governor has the tools he needs, our public health department has the tools it needs, our local public health officials have the tools they need, to combat this pandemic.”

The debate will likely flare up again in another special session in mid-December.
