New COVID restrictions ordered by Governor Tim Walz focus on late-night and early-morning socializing at bars and restaurants, which health officials say are a major contributor to the spread of coronavirus. The governor says many in the 18-to-35 age group that have COVID show no symptoms:
“You don’t see it on ’em. They are not sick. They are legitimately asymptomatic and they believe, and in many cases, they’re doing almost everything right, but they’re infected and they are contagious.”
Republican State Representative Dave Baker from Willmar responds:
“Taking away all the bar stools and not seating there, I understand what they’re trying to do. The problem is, I don’t know what we’re doing is really helping.”
Baker says when the governor’s order closes bars at 10 p-m, people won’t just go home to bed and could end up socializing in a place that’s not as safe.
