Democrat Tina Smith — first sent to the U-S Senate after Al Franken’s resignation — has won re-election, defeating Republican challenger and former Congressman Jason Lewis 49 percent to 43. As returns came in last night (Tues), Minnesota D-F-L Party Chairman Ken Martin said about Lewis:

“Attached himself to Donald Trump’s hip. I don’t think that’s gonna fare well for him in a state like Minnesota.”

Lewis said the reason he focused on Greater Minnesota in his campaign…

“That’s the forgotten man and woman of Minnesota.   Far too many statewide officeholders take them for granted.”

Senator Smith in a statement released early this morning said from the beginning her campaign has been about “what we can do to work together, find common ground, and get results for the good of Minnesota and our country.”
