A Blue Earth man is dead after a crash near Winnebago. According to the State Patrol, a Dodge Caravan, driven by 76-year-old Harold Renkley of Blue Earth, was southbound on Highway 169.
A Dodge Dart, driven by 20-year-old Jeffrey Gunzenhauser of Winnebago was northbound. That’s when the Patrol says they collided. Renkley was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger, 84-year-old Stanley Oppedal of Ames, Iowa has non-life-threatening injuries. Gunzenhauser has life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center.
All three were wearing seatbelts and no alcohol was involved. The crash happened just after midnight on October 31st.
Faribault County Sheriff’s Office, Blue Earth Fire and Ambulance, Winnebago Ambulance, North Memorial Ambulance, Mayo One, and Winnebago Police assisted on the scene. Road conditions were listed as dry at the time of the crash.
