State health officials continue pushing the message that following health guidelines provides the best path forward in battling COVID-19. As the state reported a record number of single-day new cases of the virus Thursday, Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm pointed the finger at non-compliance to restrictions already in place.

“If we can’t win compliance with the current guidelines, might there be more restrictions considered. And that is a difficult call.”

Even as she expressed concern the state would continue to set records around daily case counts, Malcolm did say the administration’s preference right now is to not implement further restrictions.
