Mankato-City staff will be in front of the Public Safety Center, 710 S. Front St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 to assist anyone wanting to dispose of unwanted medications as part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. For safety, this is provided as a curbside service and staff and participants are required to wear masks during drop-off.
Responsibly disposing of medications helps keep them out of landfills and the water system. Items collected are incinerated to have the least environmental impact.
Accepted items:
- prescription medications
- over-the-counter medications
- narcotics and other controlled substances
- medication samples
- pet medications
- vitamins and supplements
- liquid medication in glass or leak-proof containers
- medicated ointments and lotions
- inhalers
Non-accepted items:
- needles, syringes or other sharps
- thermometers
- IV bags
- bloody or infectious waste
- hydrogen peroxide
- business waste
Additionally, the city of Mankato provides a self-serve, anonymous drug drop box disposal service year-round, 24-hours a day at Mankato’s Public Safety Center. Blue Earth County also has a drug drop box available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Blue Earth County Justice Center, 401 Carver Road.
