October is “Farm to School Month.”   Sami Burrington, a school nutrition specialist with the Minnesota Department of Education, says the idea is to honor those farmers who help feed Minnesota-produced food to school kids:

“My role is to be a champion of farm to school for our school nutrition programs across the state. And while this year looks a little different because we can’t celebrate together in person, we are still finding time to celebrate our connections between our students and local food.”

Burrington says the initiative is a way to express their gratitude to farmers and to school nutritionists for their service, which impacts both general health and the economy.
