After a review of the most recent information related to COVID-19, Mankato Area Public Schools will remain in a hybrid learning model for all elementary and secondary schools when school resumes after the MEA break.

So far in October, positive cases in Blue Earth County have ranged from around 20 on October 1 to 1 on October 12; and ranged from around 15 on October 3 to 2 on October 12 in Nicollet County. In MAPS, there have been nine cases this week and 27 since the start of the school year. We continue to monitor the information on a daily basis with our partners and will keep families informed. As always, student and staff health and safety is our top priority.

Students and staff continue to do a tremendous job in keeping each other safe by social distancing, wearing face coverings/masks and staying home when sick. Families working with their children on how to stay safe is also an important contributing factor. Additional safety measures, including the installation of plexiglass and enhanced cleaning protocols are also helping prevent the spread of COVID-19.

As the cold and flu season begins, please continue to encourage hand washing and covering coughs. Keep children home when sick, when waiting for COVID-19 test results, and if someone in your household is sick and being tested for COVID-19. We understand that when students can’t attend school it can be difficult for families. We appreciate everyone’s efforts to help minimize the potential spread of COVID-19. Working together we can help keep students in school.

Weekly reports, including positive cases throughout the district, are available on the MAPS’ COVID-19 web page. When a positive case is reported, families and staff are notified by the school district, MDH or both with information on next steps.

Mankato Area Public Schools’ learning model decision is based on several pieces of data, including the 14-day county infection rate averages distributed weekly by MDH. In addition, recommendations from public health and health care partners from Mankato Clinic, Mayo Clinic Health System, Blue Earth and Nicollet counties and the MDH are reviewed and considered.
