27 Minnesota firefighters are back home after battling western wildfires for two weeks. Brainerd Deputy Fire Chief Dave Cox says for firefighters trained mainly for structure fires, they had to get up to speed quickly on the best wildfire-fighting techniques.
“The terrain out there is very different than what we have too. A lot of steep mountains that we had to deal with. It is different than what we have to deal with here. The trees are really big and the stumps will burn for quite a long time too.”
State Fire Marshall Jim Smith thanked all the officers for their efforts and their unselfish service.
