Fire deaths are up in Minnesota so far this year. Many of those deaths are a result of cooking-related fires. State Fire Marshal Jim Smith says the deaths are preventable and he has this advice:
“Stay in the kitchen. The reason that people are succumbing to fires in the kitchen is that they have stepped away from the stove or oven to do something else.”
So far, 43 Minnesotans have died in fires–a 39-percent increase over this time last year.
