A new report by the nonpartisan U.S. Government Accountability Office shows deep regional inequities in payments to farmers harmed by trade turmoil over the last couple of years. U.S. Senator Tina Smith says farmers in the southern parts of the U.S. benefitted significantly compared to other regions.

“These dollars flowed to big farmers rather than too small farmers, to southern crops rather than Minnesota crops.”

Eight of the top nine states with the highest payments per acre were in the South.
