A group of lawmakers is appealing a decision that denied a legal challenge to Governor Walz’s COVID-19 emergency powers to the Minnesota State Supreme Court. Erick Kaardal is an attorney for the group. He says it’s a civil rights lawsuit

“The Governor’s COVID orders have restricted civil liberties such as leaving your home, running a business, social distance, and face masks. These are all civil rights. We all know that,” said Kaardal. “We’re challenging this wholesale delegation of power from the legislature to the Governor without any limitations.”

A Ramsey County judge dismissed the lawsuit last week. The Minnesota Legislature will head back to St. Paul (Friday) for a special session. Governor Walz will ask lawmakers to extend his peacetime emergency powers another 30 days.
