When COVID-19 restrictions were first put in place, they had the goal of not overwhelming our health care capacity. Most indications say that goal has been achieved. MDH Commissioner Jan Malcom says there’s a greater understanding of what the virus can and cannot do presently.

“We are grateful for the stable and declining hospitalization rates and mortality,” said Malcom. “However, this is a broader picture of long-term health damage from COVID and the disruptions that high numbers of cases cause schools and employers.”

MDH reported Tuesday there were 257 persons in the hospital with COVID-19, with 135 in the ICU. That’s the lowest hospitalization total in the state since July 27th.
