Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in deer continues to be a concern, but the DNR’s Dr. Michelle Carstensen says…

“CWD remains a rare disease in Minnesota, which is still a good thing, we do stil have it in certain areas, but we have it at very low levels and we’re working diligently to try to continue to have it be less present.”

In the last year, 36 deer tested positive for the always-fatal disease in the southeastern portion of the state. Since 2002, Minnesota has sampled over 90,000 deer and 88 total positive cases have been discovered (in Olmstead, Fillmore, Winona, Houston, Crow Wing and Dakota Counties).
