A food assistance non-profit founded in Minnesota nearly 40 years ago has seen historic levels of demand in recent weeks.

“We’ve seen steady increases every single month of people who are in need, and need nutritious health hot food. When July came and went we served over 500-thousand meals.”

Loaves and Fishes Minnesota Executive Director Cathy Maes says she is incredibly proud of the way the Loaves and Fishes team stepped up in the face of the challenge.

“To give it perspective, last year we served 1.3 million meals in 12 months.”

Though they started in the Twin Cities in 1982, Maes says they now have 64 meal sites stretching across the state.
