Press Release from Indivisible Mankato:
Monday, Aug. 17th, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM
Sponsor: Indivisible St. Peter/Greater Mankato
Location: Veteran’s Memorial Bridge (11:30-12:30)/Veterans Memorial Park (12:30-1:30)
Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/334990167549109/
Audience: community members from St. Peter/Mankato and surrounding areas
Our theme and message: Trump and Hagedorn’s cruel and ineffective approaches to the pandemic, the economy, and our democracy has destroyed people’s lives and livelihoods. Southern Minnesotans deserve strong, compassionate leaders who will put people over personal profit and power.
Event Description: On Monday, August 17th, Pres. Donald Trump will be visiting Mankato to shore up support for our struggling and out of touch Congressman Jim Hagedorn. Indivisible SPGM will be holding a counter-rally about our values and the issues that affect all southern Minnesotans. We’re going to fight for our post office, our democracy, and our rights as citizens and as humans. We’re going to remind everyone about Trump’s cruelty and incompetence – his complete inability to lead this country during a time of crisis when people are about to lose their homes, loved ones, and all their hopes for the future and their children – and about why it’s so important to show up in November and make our voices heard.
11:30-12:15 Demonstration: Veterans Memorial Bridge in Mankato
12:30-1:30 Remarks: Veterans Memorial Park
Speakers will share about what it’s like to live and work in Mankato during the Trump/Hagedorn era as a healthcare worker (Petra Herrera), teacher (Kate Martens), international student (Dolly Baruah), family member of a community member who has been deported (Josefina Flandes), and advocate for racial justice (Bukata Hayes). Remarks will be livestreamed on the Indivisible St. Peter/Greater Mankato public facebook page.
This rally will be peaceful and family-friendly. Masks and social distancing are required. The area is wheelchair accessible.
