Candidates for U-S Senate come out of Tuesday’s primary election with a new Emerson College poll showing Democratic incumbent Tina Smith and Republican challenger Jason Lewis in a statistical tie (Smith 48 percent, Lewis 45 percent, with four percent margin of error). Lewis says he’s not surprised:

“When Tina Smith runs around and said, we’ve got to examine the dangerous role police play in society or continue the righteous protests, which aren’t protests at all. It’s almost an urban warfare situation in so many American cities.   It started here.”

Smith responds she disagrees with de-funding the police — however…

…”we do need to deal with the fact that policing needs to be reformed and we need accountability for police officers that have acted with impunity for too long.”
