The deadline is approaching for more than 20,000 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants in Minnesota to renew their applications to continue receiving benefits.

“We’ve been utilizing a federal waiver from the federal government to delay certifications or recertifications for those that are participating in our SNAP program and what we’re hearing now from our federal partners is that they’re planning on ending those waivers beginning with our September Benefits.”

Nikki Farago with the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) says participants must renew their applications in August in order to continue receiving their benefits for September onward. The DHS has asked the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to reconsider flexibility requests for SNAP participants amid COVID-19.
