There were a number of water emergencies across the state over the long holiday weekend. The DNR’s Lisa Dugan says with another hot day on tap you can expect another busy day on Minnesota lakes and rivers. Dugan says to keep in mind drowning doesn’t look like how it’s portrayed in the movies:

“It can happen very quickly and often times silent. You don’t see the person waving their hands and screaming because a lot of times they are just trying to keep their head above water, you might see them bobbing slightly at the surface just trying to gasp for air.”

Dugan says always be sure you know who from your group is in the water, put the distractions away, and keep a close eye them.
