Thanks to a Blue Earth County Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) grant, residents of Pemberton will soon be able to utilize benches along their Main Street as well as along a walking path at the Community Center.
Blue Earth County SHIPworks with local communities and businesses to implement research-based strategies that create lasting change helping all people in Minnesota prevent chronic diseases and live longer, healthier lives.
This particular project was identified as part of the City of Pemberton’s larger efforts to improve their Main Street. By installing benches, the City hopes to promote and support active transportation though walking which also encourages residents to get outside. “This effort aligns with one of SHIP’s goals,” said Kristen Friedrichs, SHIP Coordinator, “to create healthier communities across Minnesota by expanding opportunities for active living.”
