As family camping trips become more common following the 4th of July, health officials are reminding parents to watch their kids around the campfire. Regions Hospital Dr. Jessie Nelson says…

“Each year our burn center sees an average of 10 children with serious campfire burns, the average age is around 2 years old and most of them are from day-old campfires.”

Dr. Nelson says to prevent burns, keep children away from fire pits and grills. And don’t assume a fire pit is cool – even the morning after a campfire. Seemingly cool logs can cause third-degree burns.
