State Senate Republicans are calling for a U-S Department of Justice (DOJ) to look into the Minneapolis Police Department’s (MPD’s) response to riots after the George Floyd protests. Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen of Alexandria is a former sheriff and he says when the Minneapolis city council announced it was considering dismantling the MPD…

“They’re certainly sending a strong message that they don’t care for the people in blue, and believe me, the bad guys are listening, they’re paying attention to that, they’re taking advantage of it.”

Ingebrigtsen is referring to a recent spate of shootings in Minneapolis. Democratic Senators say the state Department of Human Rights is already conducting a “fair” investigation and the Republicans’ request of the DOJ “does nothing but an attempt to undermine one of our state agencies, and instead put the investigation into the hands of an administration that has not been impartial on issues of racial justice and police brutality.”
