There has been a reduction in visits to emergency rooms since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. MDH says there has been a 23 percent reduction in heart attack patients, a 20 percent reduction in stroke patients, and a 10 percent reduction in low blood sugar classes. Kris Ehresman is with the Minnesota Department of Health.
“If you think about it, a decline of this magnitude is biological implausible especially for older adults,” said Ehresman.
Ehresman says they’re emphasizing to people it is safe to go to the ER
“We want to make sure those experiencing signs of serious health issues should seek immediate emergency attention, regardless of the pandemic,” said Ehresman.
Ehresman says these are nationwide numbers and they represent the 10 weeks of the pandemic versus the 10 weeks prior to the pandemic.
