The Mankato City Council has scheduled a special meeting for next Monday night to discuss potentially requiring masks to be worn in public places. The council set the meeting on a 4-3 vote last night. Council members Jean Melby-Kelly, Karen Foreman, Mike Laven and Mayor Najwa Massad approved setting the meeting with members Jessica Hatapna, Mark Frost and Dennis Dieken opposing. City manager Pat Hentges says the council will be presented with an ordinance for their review next week. Hentges says the council will have the option of setting a public hearing on the ordinance at the special meeting next Monday. If the council schedules the public hearing, it would be held at a meeting sometime in July.
