Ahead of today’s special session, House Democrats with the support of Governor Tim Walz rolled out a wide-ranging police reform package that includes banning chokeholds and warrior training for officers and changing laws on police use-of-force. Saint Paul Democrat Rena Moran says her rural colleagues tell her how wonderful their sheriffs and police officers are:

“They live in the community, they know the families, they probably go to the same church — but I tell you: That is something that the black community wants to see and feel too.”

House Republican Minority Leader Kurt Daudt says Democrats added felon voting rights to the agenda for the special session, but so far have ignored a GOP-sponsored bill to help police departments get rid of bad cops.
