The Saint Peter Fire Department responded with over 40 firefighters with the assistance of Kasota Fire to a structure fire that was reported at 12:54 P.M. on June 4, in the 1400 block of North Washington Ave., in Saint Peter. Saint Peter Police Officers entered the building almost immediately after receiving the call evacuating the first floor. The blaze appeared to have started in an apartment.

A primary search ensued in the rest of the building, police officers were forced out of the building by heavy smoke and visible fire.

Heavy fire was located on the NE side of the building, firefighters arrived quickly and evacuated one resident via a ladder from a third-floor balcony. Firefighters battled through extremely hot conditions. Fire attack teams were able to battle the fire from the exterior and interior of the building as search teams swept through the building to facilitate evacuations of each floor, unit-by-unit. All residents were evacuated.

Only one firefighter received a minor injury. He was treated at the scene by Allina Ambulance paramedics.

Saint Peter Fire Department responded with 5 trucks, Kasota Fire assisted with 2 trucks, and North Mankato Fire assisted with an air supply truck. Firefighters were on the scene until about 5:00 P.M.


Red Cross was notified to assist the residents. The building management company Lloyd Management has already secured housing for all occupants.
