Prayers and family reflections for George Floyd in Minneapolis as the world watched. Philonise Floyd said the way his brother treated people…
“Guys that was doing drugs, like smokers and homeless people, you couldn’t tell, because when you spoke to George, they felt like they was the president, because that’s how he made you feel.”
But a large part of Floyd’s memorial service was calls to action. The Reverend Al Sharpton:
“What happened to Floyd happens every day in this country, and education, and health services and in every area of American life! It’s time for us to stand up in George’s name and say, get your knee off our necks!”
At end of the service, the audience stood in silence for eight minutes and 46 seconds — the time George Floyd was on the ground in Minneapolis police custody. Another memorial service is Saturday afternoon in North Carolina, where Floyd was born. Floyd’s funeral is in Houston next Tuesday.
