With the nation’s eyes on Minnesota for the first of three memorial services for George Floyd, Governor Tim Walz says “this is on us” and is issuing a call-to-action to the legislature:

“I’m not sure there’s anywhere else in the country that their legislators’ (are) coming back next week. So you’re gonna get to see an opportunity next week how serious people are about getting this done. Because I will guarantee you, there will be bills put on the floor and put to a vote. Yes or no, put your money where your mouth is and send it forward.”

COVID-19 was the original focus of next week’s expected special legislative session before riots destroyed or damaged hundreds of buildings in Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

Walz:

“I think this is probably our last shot as a state and as a nation to fix this systemic issue.”
