The 2020 Summer Reading Program is going virtual! Beginning today, May 18, children and adults can earn prizes for reading and can enjoy online programs through the Blue Earth County Libraries.

Kids ages newborn to 17 are invited to take part in the 2020 “Imagine Your Story” Program. Participants are able to earn Barns & Noble gift cards by reading ten books by August 31 in three age categories; 0 to 3 will earn $5, 4 to 11 will earn $10, and 12 to 17 will earn $15. The sign-up form and reading logs are available on the Summer Reading link on the Library’s website. The program serves an important role in preventing learning loss during the summer months while school is not in session and can help kids improve their reading skills.

This year, participants will enjoy online video programs including ScienceTellers, Alex Thomas Puppets, Magician Mike Prestby, Yo-Yo Master Dazzling Dave, The Jollypops, authors Stephen Shaskan and Trisha Speed Shaskan and many more. Programming links will be posted on the Library’s website and Facebook page.

Adults can also challenge themselves by reading out of their comfort zones with Summer Book Bingo. Cards may be printed from the website’s homepage, and each completed Bingo earns an entry into prize drawings. Each adult player 18 and up may play twice to earn up to two prize chances.

The Blue Earth County Summer Reading Program is free to all participants and is made possible by the generosity of its sponsors including the Glen A. Taylor Foundation (primary sponsor), Friends of the Deep Valley Libraries, and the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund of Minnesota. Learn more at or call (507) 304-4020.
