The Kiwanis Thunder of Drums drum and bugle corps show this summer has been canceled because of the Coronavirus pandemic.  This was to be the 30th annual event in Mankato hosted by the Mankato Kiwanis Club.

The voting membership of Drum Corps International, which includes the corps scheduled for the Mankato event, voted to cancel the entire season of shows set for this summer across the United States.  After thorough evaluation of numerous factors affecting participant health and safety, travel requirements, logistics, venue availability, and other associated issues, Drum Corps International announced that all events have been suspended for this summer.

Kiwanis Thunder of Drums planning committee chair Doug Faust stated: “We are disappointed by the cancelation of our 2020 show, another casualty of the global health crisis.  However, it is the right decision, to protect the health and safety of our audience and all the drum corps participants. We look forward to hosting our 30th anniversary show in 2021.”

The Kiwanis Thunder of Drums annually attracts over 2500 music fans and 600 participants to the show held at Blakeslee Stadium, on the MSU campus.  Proceeds after expenses, supports the ’77 Lancers Marching Band, scholarships and other youth projects of the Mankato Kiwanis Club.
