While some businesses will be allowed to re-open after the Governor’s stay-at-home order is lifted, bars, restaurants, and other places of public accommodation are not allowed to yet. Blue Earth County Attorney Pat McDermott says business owners going against government orders need to consider several things.
“If a business goes against government guidance, they might want to check with their insurance carrier to make sure they’re covered in case something happens,” said McDermott. “Also a business needs to consider if they have any state-issued licenses. If they do, defying an order may give the state grounds to pull their license.”
McDermott says local law enforcement has taken the approach of education first approach related to state-issued orders, but if the situation calls for it they have to do what they have to do.
