More health care procedures will be allowed after Governor Walz signed a new executive order Tuesday.

“The order allows doctors, dentists, and veterinarians to go back in and do elective procedures after completing a plan with the Minnesota Department of Health, ” said Walz.

Walz says the order suspending those procedures was enacted at the request of the health care industry to make sure facilities had enough personal protective equipment and overall capacity. Walz says it’s a reminder that although COVID-19 is at the forefront of our attention, other health care issues are still present.

“The last thing we want to do is not put off things that could have been treated otherwise we’re going to come out of this thing in worse shape help wise,” said Walz. “We believe now is the time health care providers are ready to do it.”

Walz says the order is consistent with guidance from the CDC and the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services.
