The late payment penalty for first-half property taxes for qualifying Nicollet County property owners who are financially impacted by the COVID-19 crisis has been waived from May 15 to July 15, 2020.

Properties that qualify:
Non-escrowed commercial property with a business that was required to close under a Minnesota Governor Executive Order issued between March 16, 2020, and May 15, 2020.

Utilities and taxpayers with over $100,000 of property taxes due payable in 2020 are not eligible for the penalty abatement. Qualifying taxpayers can simply pay by the new deadline.

Typical penalties will apply to late payments made after July 15, 2020.

According to County Administrator Ryan Krosch, “The forced closure of businesses due to the COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented. These businesses are experiencing extraordinary financial hardship. We want to assist these businesses by extending the deadline to pay their property taxes penalty free.”

All other non-qualifying properties in Nicollet County are still required to pay their first-half property taxes by May 15 or be subject to a late payment penalty.
All those eligible to receive a penalty abatement must submit an application prescribed by Nicollet County.

The application can be completed online at www.co.nicollet.mn.us and
clicking on News & Announcements or by mail to Nicollet County Public Services, 501 S. Minnesota Ave., St. Peter, MN 56082.

Applications must be submitted online or postmarked
by May 15.
